Hip replacement surgery is a procedure where a painful hip joint, usually caused by arthritis or injury, is removed and replaced with an artificial joint made from metal or plastic. Hip replacement is usually carried out when all other options have been exhausted and the results should relieve the pain and improve mobility.
Hip replacement surgery has been performed for many years, and is generally considered safe, but as with all surgery there are risks.
Immediately after a hip replacement, you may not be able to move around much, making blood clots a particular concern and you will likely be given blood thinning medication to help to prevent blood clots. Other risks involved are infection and bleeding, and the risks normally associated with anaesthetic, which include nerve injuries, allergic reaction, dizziness and damage to teeth.
Along with the general surgery and anaesthetic risks, there are some risks involved with implanting the new hip joint, including fracture, dislocation, and loosening which may be down to the Hip System used in the surgery.
DePuy Orthopaedics issued a voluntary recall of their ASR™ Hip System after receiving data indicating that while most patients with the ASR™ Hip System had not required additional hip surgery, the rate of ASR™ patients who needed a second, revision surgery was increased.
As a result of the recall, any person implanted with a DePuy ASR™ Resurfacing or total Hip System may be able to claim compensation from the manufacturers for any pain, discomfort, suffering and financial loss incurred as a result of its premature failure.

How do I find out if I have a DePuy ASR™ Hip?
You will need to contact the hospital where your surgery took place to find out – it may take some time for the hospital to locate the information. If you have the ASR™ XL Acetabular System or DePuy ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System implanted, it may be worth scheduling an appointment for an assessment to evaluate how it is functioning, even if you are not suffering any symptoms.
I am suffering symptoms, what do I do?
If you are suffering symptoms such as pain, swelling or problems walking then your Hip System may have failed. It is important to follow up with your doctor/surgeon as you may need revision surgery. Also, please get in touch with us as you may be entitled to claim compensation.
Do I have to pay anything to make a claim?
We will never charge you, at any point. If your claim is successful we have our fees paid by DePuy and we work on a no win no fee basis.
If my claim is unsuccessful do I have to pay any fees?
You do not have to pay anything at any point – we have an insurance policy to cover any fees should any claims be unsuccessful.
What if DePuy declare bankruptcy?
This is an unlikely scenario – DePuy is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson and as such have billions of pounds of assets. DePuy have also allocated millions of pounds to their recall settlement fund.
If you or a loved one have suffered as a result of DePuy ASR resurfacing or total hip replacement, then fill in our quick claim form to start your No Win No Fee* claim for compensation and we will be in touch to discuss your claim in more detail.
